Background: As a young female from the planet Drema IV, Sarjenka sent out radio signals to see if anyone was listening. Data from U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D picked up the signal and began a correspondence, in violation of the Prime Directive. However, Data's intervention eventually led to the saving of Drema IV. Sarjenka was returned to Drema IV after Doctor Pulaski exposed her to a memory erasure technique.

Said technique lasted for the next three years, until Sarjenka's natural growth caused the changes to wear off. She also remembered, however, the efforts that Data had gone through to uphold the prime directive, and kept her knowledge to herself. Once she graduated from school, and her parents had passed away, Sarjenka once again turned to her radio and reached out to the stars. Once again, Data was there to respond. He asked Captain Picard for permission to sponsor her into Starfleet Academy, and he agreed.

Sarjenka started Starfleet two years behind, but excelled beyond expectations. She has recently graduated in the field of science, focusing on xenobiology. Upon graduation, she was assigned to the U.S.S. Cochrane.
