SECURITY CHIEF CHRISTOPHER KLAUS

Background: Christopher Klaus is anything but a traditional Starfleet officer. Living in Munich, Germany and estranged from his parents, he enlisted in Starfleet at the age of 18. Yeoman Klaus demonstrated a natural leadership ability and a high weapons proficiency. Because of these abilities he was selected to be trained at the Starfleet Special Forces school. Graduating with honors, he rose quickly through the enlisted ranks.

His first ship assignment was that of instructor aboard the USS Itasca, an Ambassador class vessel. His mission was to instruct the ships security personnel of new security techniques and new weapons. During this tour, the ship was diverted to the battle of Wolf 359. During the battle, Borg troops infiltrated the Itasca and killed the Security Chief. Mr. Klaus took command of the situation and was able to hold off the Borg troops until the crew could reach the escape pods. Mr. Klaus was awarded for bravery and promoted to Chief Petty Officer.

At the age of 26 with his enlistment almost complete, Mr. Klaus decided to make a lifelong career out of Starfleet. He applied to Starfleet Academy and was accepted for the following years class. Unfortunately, Klaus' mother was diagnosed with a debilitating terminal disease. With his father long dead, his mother wished to be reunited with her estranged son. Mr. Klaus returned home and decided to give up his Academy seat to be with his family.

Starfleet granted Mr. Klaus a 4 year military scholarship to Munich University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in mechanical/electrical engineering and a minor in psychology. His mother died 4 months prior to his graduation.

After graduation, Lt.JG Klaus was assigned to the USS Defiant under Commander Worf as a security officer. Mr. Klaus served well and received a personal commendation from Mr. Worf.

With Mr. Klaus' special forces background, he was considered a natural choice for peacekeeping and security duty on Cardassia following the Dominion occupation. He performed his duty well and showed an ability to remain calm and fair even under high pressure circumstances. Chastised by some for being too friendly to the Jem H'dar, he received commendations for excellence and leadership. His 2 year tour ended with a promotion to Lieutenant.

Personality: Klaus is viewed as a second class officer by some due to his lack of Academy training. Over time, he began to feel that Academy graduates were arrogant and self absorbed. Klaus is also a very personal man and does not speak often of his family. Klaus' training is considered by most to be second to none. He is a very level headed individual who adapts well to all situations. It is expected that he will do an excellent job aboard the USS Cochrane.
