Background: While the Kriosians have had a longstanding love for knowledge and history, Kaytin grew up with an over-developed passion for the subject, including that of the planet's new allies, the Federation in which they had joined. That love for knowledge bloomed into a desire to learn first-hand at the age of eighteen as he was the first Kriosian chosen to attend Starfleet. While he was forced to focus on a militaristic area of study (he chose to focus on Command), he majored in life studies and history. Upon graduation, he pulled an Earth-based assignment, becoming one of the first alien college students of the planet's history during his off-duty time. Upon receiving his doctorate, he transferred to Vulcan to attend their fabled academy. Soon, Kaytin became renowned for being a walking encyclopedia of knowledge.
Meanwhile, he proved himself to be a diligent worker and Starfleet officer, eventually gaining the position of Commodore (as he had no real desire to command a starship) and once again returned to Starfleet Academy to become an instructor. Due to a change in protocols, Kaytin was switched to become a Rear Admiral when his previous rank was dissolved. Proving to be among the toughest but most liked teachers at the Academy, he turned out some of the most knowledgeable and prepared officers available. His experience excelled him beyond his militaristic hopes, leaving him with an eighty year Starfleet career. Finally realizing that he would not be able to advance any further without leaving his treasured institution, Kaytin retired from Starfleet and turned to a private educational institution to continue his love for teaching.
It was while teaching at a Northern Illinois college that Kaytin met and fell in love with a young human professor by the name of Anna. The two were shortly married and continued to work together, exploring the depths of knowledge for the next fourty-five years.
Now, Anna has gotten older and, with a desire to see the stars, has sought out a way to travel in her retirement years. To fulfill her dream, Kaytin pulled in a few old favors and managed to receive the job of schoolteacher aboard the U.S.S. Cochrane. While his primary goal is to spend time with his wife and travel, his dedication to education has not wavered and will continue to push for the excellence of his young pupils.
