Background: As an American country-and-western singer in the late 20th-century on Earth, Clemonds died of emphysema and extensive liver damage, the effects of extensive tobacco and alcohol consumption. He arranged for his body to be cryogenically stored aboard an orbital satellite, and was revived in 2364 by the crew of the Enterprise-D. After being present for the first encounter with the Romulans in fifty years. Afterward, he returned to Earth aboard the U.S.S. Charleston. While Claire Raymond went to be with her multigenerational grandson Thomas, Ralph Offenhouse attached himself to Clemonds as his "manager" while Sonny to revive his country music career.
For the next six years, the two men traveled across the globe seeking a rebirth of country music as well as fame and fortune, but Sonny's act was seen as more of a novelty than the classics most of the population seemed to embrace in the future. However, once the Dominion War began, Sonny was able to take a piece of the past and put it to use, creating a futuristic version of the U.S.O. Assigned a re-commissioned Daedelus-class vessel dubbed the U.S.S. Hope and a skeleton federation support crew, Sonny and a crew of performers traveled to starbases and Federation-controlled outposts to provide entertainment and relief to Starfleet officers and personnel. By the end of the war, Clemonds was the war's number two headliner, following only Vic Fontaine in popularity.
After the war, Sonny began a tour and soon found himself in Quark's bar aboard Deep Space Nine. Entering into several rounds of Dabo between shows, he drew the attention the owner himself. One evening after closing, the Dabo table was hot for Sonny and very cold for Quark and the other player allowed to sit in, a Pakled named Bozarnoloth. While the intelligence of the Pakleds have been questioned, this one was clearly a few bushels shy of a full wagon. When Sonny won everything Quark and Bozarnoloth had on the table, the Pakled swore allegiance to Sonny; to follow him where ever he went. Tired of traveling the circuit, Sonny bought the rights to franchise Quarks aboard the newly developed U.S.S. Cochrane with his winnings.
"Quark's" aboard the Cochrane is a far different place than the original, though it does a better job of upholding the reputation of a "family establishment" than its "parent corporation". While Ten-Forward focuses alcoholic beverages in a conversation-friendly environment, Quarks couples liquor with food from multiple walks of life (but primarily 20th century southern foods) and varied forms of entertainment: A stage equipped for small performances (mostly Sonny) and karaoke, Pool tables, Dart boards, a kal-toh table, a Strategema table, Video games (ranging from 20th century classics to three-dimensional interactive software), and its own holodeck programmed for other games of chance and sport. As well as having Bozarnoloth (nicknamed Bosley) working as the chef, Sonny has hired three women to be waitresses: Sarabina (nicknamed Sabrina) from Ardana, Katiana "Kelly" Vel of Turkana IV, and Faranah (nicknamed Jill) of the planet Rubicun III.
